How do we get from this
Where we start
Logs are cut to length and split in half to eliminate the pith area which tends to crack
Round blanks are cut on the band saw. This reduces wood that would have to be turned and helps balance the blank.
The blank is mounted on the lathe, trued up and the outside shape turned.
And Now To The Inside
The blank is reversed and mounted back on the lathe so the inside can be rough turned.
The Process Continues
Watch the chips fly as the inside enlarges to match the outside shape.
Rough Turning Completed
The rough turned piece will be put aside to dry for a few months and then turned to completion.
