How do we get from thisWhere we start To this.......Finished piece First StepLogs are cut to length and split in half to eliminate the pith area which tends to crack Next Round blanks are cut on the band saw. This reduces wood that would have to be turned and helps balance the blank. And ThenThe blank is mounted on the lathe, trued up and the outside shape turned. And Now To The InsideThe blank is reversed and mounted back on the lathe so the inside can be rough turned. The Process ContinuesWatch the chips fly as the inside enlarges to match the outside shape. Rough Turning CompletedThe rough turned piece will be put aside to dry for a few months and then turned to completion.
